I calculated that the half-life of fresh cookies in our apartment is approximately 3 hours. Only at Tech.
Weirdos. A) that's far too long for cookies to last. B) It seems to me that you failed to take into account that the state of freshness has a half-life all on it's own, as it so short that it must be measured in minutes (unless you want a degree of accuracy about 88%, then you must also measure in seconds). [With the given information, I expect someone to calculate what I consider to be the true half-life of fresh cookies.] {Yes, this will all be on the test.}
Did you calculate the half life of cookies, or not?
State your assumptions, Siress. How do you define fresh? Does fresh mean, freshly baked? What if they are sugar cookies that needed to cool and be frosted? Can you not have a freshly opened package of oreos? The ideal time to eat a cookie is going to vary greatly by type of cookie. A sugar cookie won't be good until it as been frosted. A nestle Tollhouse cookie has two ideal times. They are good warm from the oven, and they are good leftover the next day. subsequent days would obviously reduce freshness.
3 hours is not too long for a half life of cookies. First of all, we are talking about half-life, so how long it actually takes to eat all the cookies is dependent on initial concentration of cookies. So how big is the batch of cookies. If you only make 12 cookies, and there are 4 people in an apartment, than it would take about half a day for the cookies to disappear, since people aren't going to divide the cookies into fractions smaller than one half. Half a day isn't so bad. it's going to depend on how healthy these people are. however, you if make an entire batch of nestle tollhouse cookies, that is more than 3 dozen cookies. It would take about 15 hours to eliminate all those cookies. That is an average of 9 cookies per person. If you eat 9 cookies in 15 hours, you are very unhealthy. 4.5 cookies per person seems more reasonable for 15 hours. about 3 when fresh, and 1.5 in the morning. So you would need to have either 8 people in your apartment, or enough guests over to add up to 8 people. Those guests would also have to be there the next day.
